Despite the fact that Cade Foehner (Gabby Barrett’s husband) and the singer from “The Good Ones” did not win “American Idol” season 16, placing in fourth and third place, respectively, that does not mean that they did not walk away with something.

Barrett told PopCulture, “He has a really cool look, my husband…he has lots of hair, just super cool rocker dude, and I wanted to make a video with him of us singing together.” They hit it off instantly and have been married for almost a decade. Thus, I was the one who initiated it. It was mutual, but I attacked him first. I didn’t think he liked me at first, but then he contacted me, and I realised what was happening.

By the end of the competition, the two musicians had developed love feelings for one another and had come close to making their relationship public during the programme. Foehner proposed to her in the same hotel room where they originally met, and they wed a year and a half later. They stayed together for the remainder of their lives. Cade has joined his wife on tour since the birth of their daughter, Baylah May. They’re on the road together, hoping to reach as many people as possible with their music.

Background

A vital part of the singer’s life is their faith. The American Idol judge Katy Perry said she was stunned by Cade’s performance because she “saw some things” that her minister parents would have repressed, to which Cade replied, “I’m a minister, too, so it’s OK.”

When Cade was younger, roping and horseback riding piqued his interest more than music.

A quote from an interview with Centre Broadcasting Company reads, “I rodeoed my whole life…but I broke my leg riding a horse.”

He was giving an excuse for his lack of rodeo participation. To continue, he said, “So I asked for a guitar for Christmas, and then I picked it up, and then I just kind of fell in love.”

It appears that his love of horses has not been dampened by his impairment; he routinely posts photos of himself riding different horses on his social media pages.

Cade as a Guitarist

When asked about his musical beginnings, he told Talent Recap, “When I started in music, I was a guitar player, like, that was the first thing I ever did, play guitar.” Singing was just a vehicle to get the reality TV star where she wanted to go. The singer went on to say, “I kind of became a singer out of necessity, and I wanted to be in a way, but I just wasn’t very good for a long time.” In order to support myself, “I became a singer kind of out of necessity.”

Practise makes perfect, but as Foehner put it, “the singing kind of overtook the guitar playing after some time.” And he went on, “At this point in my life, I do consider myself a singer.”

Hard Work and Passion

Cade was a band member in Johnson’s Lost Crowes before striking out on his own with his music. “For him to be the kid from East Texas, from Shelbyville, Texas where nobody knows, and for him to win it out of all the competition, it was just wow,” said former bandmate Julian Johnson. Wow, he beat out all the other competitors despite being a child from obscure Shelbyville, Texas in East Texas. To a large extent, I enjoyed myself. There was a lot of happiness around. What can we say? We were psyched.

As an added compliment, Johnson said of his close friend, “He practises six hours a day, sometimes seven, just playing guitar.”

Relationship with Gabby

The happy parents gave birth to their first child, a daughter, on January 18th, 2021. They named her Baylah. In a heartfelt post commemorating his daughter’s first birthday, he gushed over the special day. There, he wished his girlfriend a happy birthday with the words “Happy birthday to my sweet tooty, pooty, pumpkin pie, darlin’, baby, lovey, cutie.” Little one, you make your father very proud of you. One of my favourite things to do is watch you play with your baby doll as if you were actually a mom. It’s wonderful that you’re showing signs of maternal instincts at such a young age. When you have kids, they’ll be lucky to have you as a parent. You have a fantastic one at your disposal. It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am to God for leaving me such a wonderful legacy in the form of you. I love you and appreciate you so much, daughter.
