ESPN Deportes Overview

ESPN Deportes is a Spanish-language sports channel aimed primarily at the Hispanic community in the U.S. It’s owned by ESPN Inc., a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (80% stake) and Hearst Communications (20% stake). The channel broadcasts from Los Angeles, Bristol, Connecticut, and Mexico City.

History

ESPN Deportes first started its journey in 2001, serving as a Spanish-language programming feed exclusively for certain baseball games. By 2004, recognizing the need and popularity, it evolved into a standalone 24-hour sports subscription channel. Seven years later, in 2011, the channel stepped up its broadcasting quality by introducing a 720p HD simulcast feed. Taking another significant leap forward, in 2015, ESPN Deportes inaugurated a state-of-the-art four-studio production facility in Mexico City. Subsequent to this upgrade, by 2016, all shows produced in Mexico were seamlessly transitioned to broadcast from these new studios.
